The Amazing Spiderman Review : not much amazing, but still solid entertainment

Ok so here I am, writing my first entry in the blog, which is also my first movie review. Also, The Amazing Spiderman is the first part of the Spiderman franchise reboot by Columbia Pictures directed by Marc Webb. And the friendly neighbourhood superhero is played by the charming brit Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Never let Me Go).
Marc handles this movie with a very different approach compared to other masked vigilante movies and adds his own touch. He tweaks the spidey origin story here and there which was essential to differentiate it from the one shown in Sam Raimi's Spiderman (2002). The love interest is not Mary-Jane as was in Raimi's franchise. Here it is fellow student Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone who has a stronger role than MJ and she plays it well.
Peter Parker is still the lovable geek bullied by college jocks and having an interest in clicking pictures. He starts working for dr. Curtis Connors (Rhys Ifans) who was his father's friend and partner in developing cross species mutation and unknowingly develops a chemical which helps Connor turn into a big green lizard.
Though I am not sure if a reboot was really needed considering  the fact that the audience still has memories of Tobey Maguire's sleep-eyed act as the mutant spider-bitten hero. But the chemistry between Garfield and Stone is sweet and charming and it sometimes feels as if we are watching a rom-com infused with action.
The CGI effects are very cool and cinematography is perfect. A sense of urgency required to keep us glued to the seats is missing sometimes, but witty one-liners by Garfield keep up the fun quotient.
The post credits scene hints at a new nemesis for the second part.

The movie did not meet my sky-high expectations but i guess, its due to the Avengers' factor, which definitely raised the bar for comic-book films.
I would go with 3 out of 5 for this.
